from dark emerald yews
to bronze seedhead hues,
tan twiggy weaves
to black ivy leaves;
dull boxes, rust hedge.
sun upon the horizon's edge,
a clouded sky the contrast fades;
the softened green of fields of blades,
and morning brings the dew and frost.
and all the gloom of stagnancy lost
when ray of light shines through and sees
itself caught in the crystal seas,
multiplying and dividing
the beauty of light no longer hiding.
the plants' display die back for this reason:
to not compete with the Light of the season.
